The best thing about trusting in God

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Life, for me, was not a bed of roses. Being a regular victim of betrayals, disappointments and rejections, I became like a depressed detective trying to figure out why everything was messed up. I wondered why even those who don’t know me personally are ready to make up awful stories to tarnish my image. Why is life so cruel and unfair? Why am I so unlucky? I kept doing my best to be happy but it seemed the entire course of the universe was set against me. I was totally drained trying to define my life and situation using my discretion but that only kept me imprisoned in the abyss of tears and sadness.

When life doesn't turn out as expected, we are convinced to think that we can have everything figured out. Our minds are very good at doing funny things when we get freaked out. However, when we are done scheming, arranging, and rearranging, we are left spiritually drained and physically exhausted. We are confronted with the reality of our limitations which consequently leaves us really helpless.

Beloved, the truth is that life is not designed for you to walk through it alone. Trying to solve all the puzzles alone is like attempting to swim across the ocean. No wonder Proverbs 28: 4 says “He who trusts in himself is a fool.” We often carry needless burdens when we can simply commit our deepest worries and greatest fears to the Almighty whose yoke is easy. The wisest man does not know tomorrow and the strongest warrior still fears the unknown. There is a limit to all human brilliance. This is why the LORD says in Jeremiah 9:23 “Let not the wise boast in his wisdom, nor the strong man in his strength, nor the wealthy man in his wealth. But let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD.”

It is easy to see our situation from a perspective that makes us feel comfortable or reassured. This is what I call a tailor-made solution for a microwave generation when everything has to make sense instantly. Nevertheless, the honest truth is that we don't have all the answers to every problem that we face here on earth. Are you going through so much in life and wondering why it’s all happening to you? Do remember what Jesus says in John 13:7? "Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” Quit trying to figure out everything because God is in control. He has promised never to leave nor forsake you. He says “when you pass through the waters …when you walk through the fire, you will not be burnt.” It might be a complicated and inexplicable situation; He has great plans for you, plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Keep the faith and you will see how God will sort it out completely.
